Students in grades 1 through 5 receive a firm foundation in a challenging academic program. Teachers encourage independent thinking and problem-solving in an atmosphere of respect and cooperation.
Students integrate the use of technology in their classrooms and on research projects done both independently and with cooperative teams. Every classroom is equipped with an interactive white board where students encounter the benefits of global learning through the use of this educational tool. Students also access the computer lab which is equipped with 25 computers.
The OLP Elementary School program emphasizes growth in a self-contained setting. The school has a strong literature-based English Language Arts program with an emphasis on reading, writing and speaking skills. Students in grades 1-5 have one or two core teachers for their major subjects: English Language Arts (reading, phonics, spelling, writing, penmanship), math, religion, science and social studies.
Students also participate in art, physical education, computer, music and Spanish. Students in 2nd grade spend the year preparing for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. These special milestones are celebrated with the school and church community.
Progress Reports and Report Cards are completed quarterly and delivered online via the website designed by the Archdiocese of New York.
