Elementary School
(Grades 1-5)

3rd graders team up with 7th graders to practice descriptive writing skills
Students in grades 1 through 5 receive a firm foundation in a challenging academic program. Teachers encourage independent thinking and problem-solving in an atmosphere of respect and cooperation.

Students integrate the use of technology in their classrooms and on research projects done both independently and with cooperative teams.  For at least one period each week students visit the fully equipped computer lab, and, under the direction of their homeroom teacher and the Educatell Team, learn to incorporate technology into content-based projects.

The school has a strong literature-based reading program with an emphasis on writing, speaking, and listening skills.

The OLP Elementary School program emphasizes growth in a self-contained setting.  Students in grades 1-5 are assigned a homeroom teacher who teaches all of their core subjects, including: Language Arts, Reading, Math, Religion, Social Studies, and Science.  Students also participate weekly in several Special classes taught by other staff members - Art, Computer, Gym, Library, Music.

Students in 2nd grade spend the year preparing for the Sacraments of First Reconcilation and First Holy  Communion.  These special milestones are celebrated with the school and church community.

Progress Reports and Report Cards are completed quarterly on the Churchwerks Program designed by the Archdiocese of New York.  Grades are determined based on a pre-determined scale assigned to OLP by the Archdiocese.
